Pietro (Pete) Savo, Master Aeronautical Science

Pete Savo helps DPA clients make process improvements that support lean manufacturing environments. His professional experience and clientele encompass aerospace and aircraft and automotive manufacturing, telecommunications, electronic, mechanical assembly and fabrication, composites and metal fabrication. His training capabilities range from conducting shop floor kaizens to updating boards of directors.

Pete employs a holistic approach to sustainable lean implementation, process flow, job shop manufacturing, set-up reduction, engineering efficiency, organizational business efficiency, development time to market and business process re-engineering. He offers support on lean transformation, manufacturing facility management, organizational development, supply chain management and leadership development.

His career includes 18+ years at Sikorsky Aircraft, a division of United Technologies Corporation (UTC). During his time at UTC Pete served in a number of positions including manufacturing forman, manufacturing production manager, senior coordinator of Sikorsky's security & fire brigade, program analyst, engineering manager - flight operations. Pete was a student of and worked alongside the late Yuzuru Ito, founder of Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) at Ito University As a consultant, Pete has served the United States Air Force and United States Army Manufacturing Technical Assistance Production Program (MTAPP) for six years as the agencies' senior lean practitioner. In this role he provided direct support to hundreds of Department of Defense suppliers, ranging from $1M to $700M in annual revenue, that supported the Warfighter initiative, a program to maximize joint war-fighter readiness by providing high quality, competitive and timely products and services through the optimal utilization of sources of manufacturing, maintenance / repair / overhaul and expeditionary logistics capabilities. MTAPP works with businesses that have difficulty fulfilling their demand requirements by helping them increase their capabilities thereby enhancing the competitiveness of small manufacturing businesses.

His research supports the philosophy that a single approach to lean does not fit all organizations. He has published white papers including "10 Secrets for Implementing Lean", "Work Lean", Holistic Business Solutions (HBS)™, "Smart-Lean", "Sustainable Cultural Foundation", and "Lean-Wise".

Author of two books on root cause analysis and lean manufacturing, Peter has lectured at Boeing Aircraft, Lockheed Martin, Rolls Royce, Northup Grumman, Raytheon, United Technologies and the American Society for Quality (ASQ) on lean thinking, leadership, team building, quality systems, ISO registrar selection and other topics.

Pete Savo holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business from Sacred Heart University and a Master in Aeronautical Science in Human Factors from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He is in the process of completing a Doctorate in Business Administration from Jones International University.
