PECO Energy's T&S division is responsible for building and maintaining the
utilitys 550 power substations and the electric transmission network for
distribution reliability. In an effort to improve customer service, the company has
looked to DPA to review T&S processes and identify areas for improvement and recommend
solutions.
"What impressed us about Daniel Penn is their model for process mapping and gap
analysis. They use a hands-on approach that leverages the knowledge of the organization
and ensures validity of the results. It was clear that they understood what we needed and
could provide a roadmap to success," said Alicia Daugherty, PECO operations director,
Transmission & Substations.
The four primary processes to be reviewed are:

 |
Event Investigation |
|
 |
Event Response |
|
 |
Testing, and |
|
 |
Installation |
The ultimate goal in reviewing these processes is to minimize equipment trippings and
service interruptions. Over the contract period of seven calendar weeks, DPA will conduct
thorough reviews and analysis, and provide a comprehensive study identifying key issues
and prioritizing a corrective action plan to move the operation to a higher level of
performance.
"Our approach looks beyond independent functions and tasks to identify
opportunities through the cross-functional processes that link them," said Tony
Rodriquez, DPA president. "By taking a holistic approach, constraints that stand in
the way of optimum process performance and corporate goals can be clearly identified. We
can then recommend practical opportunities to increase efficiencies and improve
performance."
