South Dakota Department of Social Services awards Daniel Penn Associates with Lean training and implementation contract

Hartford, Conn., March 2, 2019 — The South Dakota Department of Social Services (DSS) has awarded Daniel Penn Associates, LLC (DPA) a contract to provide Lean training, mentoring and assisting with the implementation of Lean at DSS related to pended and denied Medicaid claims.

To achieve their goals, DSS is in the process of creating a Lean culture through the development of a Lean management system. DPA’s support will encompass five areas: train supervisor and team leaders in advanced Lean topics; train manager and senior leadership in Lean fundamentals, principles, and leadership; train staff in an introduction to Lean principles, tools and techniques; conduct a process improvement (kaizen) event in the pended and denied Medicaid claims unit; and provide coaching and mentoring to the kaizen event participants as they implement the kaizen event’s recommendations.

Daniel Penn Associates will begin the project with South Dakota DSS during the first quarter of 2020.
